Red Stone Island Ice Jacket in 3-Phase Reactive nylon ripstop, the padded jacket that changes colour
The Stone Island Ice Jacket is one of the brand's most iconic pieces: a thermosensitive hooded padded jacket whose shade shifts with the temperature. This FW26 version in 3-Phase Reactive nylon ripstop moves from a deep red to lighter tones, through to grey, as soon as the fabric warms up.
The style
Born in the late 1980s, the Ice Jacket embodies Stone Island's textile research. Its short parka cut, high hood and two slanted flap pockets form a utilitarian silhouette that is instantly recognisable. The Compass badge, buttoned to the centre of the chest, signs the piece. The red colourway (V0080) carries glossy highlights thanks to the coating, and every shift from cold to warm reveals new shades: the print of a hand, a ray of sunshine or stepping into a heated room changes its colour before your eyes.
Fabric and comfort
The fabric is a nylon ripstop covered with a glossy rubberised resin layer holding thermosensitive micro-capsules. Two pigments react at different temperature thresholds, hence its three colour phases. Inside, polyester padding and a nylon lining provide warmth and comfort all winter long. Drawcords at the waist and hem, adjustable cuff tabs and the adjustable hood let you close the silhouette against the wind.
